Great images of a 12-month old...

So many times clients tell me... "I've taken my little one to studio X several times, and they are just at that difficult age where they can't get any good pictures..."

One of my goals, as a photographer, is to capture the true personalities of my subject(s), whether they be 1 year-old or 30 years-old. I work very hard to help everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera, to just be themselves. This is one of the biggest reasons I am a location photographer. We take your child to an environment in which they feel comfortable. I never rush them, and we just play and work with them until they show their true side. Here's a few images from a session with a one year-old this past weekend.

Getting to know Laura and Joe...

I had a wonderful time on Sunday night working with Laura and Joe to take some great engagement pictures. We worked really hard to get some pictures that showed who they are... we were all pleased with the results. I can't wait for the wedding, guys!

Coaxing out the shyness....

We spent a few days down at Lake Cumberland this past weekend. Maddy wanted to go boating on "Uncle Kevin's" boat so badly. On Saturday morning, I took her out by the pool while Cooper was napping and snapped a few pictures of her. It's amazing if you get them by themselves, and let them play a little, they seem to forget the camera is even there.

It's all in the detail....

I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to second shoot a wedding at the end of June. I've pondered wedding photography for a while. It's one of the most rewarding yet nerve wrecking experiences one can have. I would love to get some more experience in this arena. If you know of someone that needs an economically priced photographer, and is willing to take a chance on someone that's working to gain some experience, please send them my way for a chat.

Great results with a garage!

I believe that one of the greatest ways to learn lighting is to work with God's "soft box." On Friday I started to work on Cooper's 6-month photos. This was taken on our garage floor with a white fleece backdrop, a piece of plexiglass and the good ol' sun. I've thought a lot about it and really believe that you don't get results by owning the most expensive equipment, but rather learning how to use the equipment you already own. I will say though that having a sheet of plexiglass bigger than 2ft by 4ft wouldn't hurt!

Those Senior Pictures...

Just completed a senior session with Stephen. The proofs turned out great. Be sure to check out his slide show. Senior pictures don't have to be painful! Let them be an example of your true self. You're only a senior once!

"I'm a little teapot..."

I'm sure Cooper will learn to hate this picture, but I just couldn't resist. One day when he's all grown up, we will look back on this and giggle. I love this picture because I feel it shows a little about both our personalities. It shows that I'm a little nutty because I put my kid in a huge teacup, and his expression shows exactly how he feels about the whole situation. Coincidentally, this was not photoshopped. He is sitting in a real teacup with a 10" diamter, it's actually a planter. Kevin still can't believe that I bought a planter just for this picture. What a photographer/mom won't go through to get a good photo op!

Getting more exposure! (no pun intended)

I took my camera to class with me the other day to show my friend Lisa. She shares my interest in photography. After class I talked her into letting me take a few photos of her. I'm going to introduce her to one of my work friends, but wanted to have them exchange pictures first. First, photographer, now match maker!

Just getting started!

Where to go from here? Well, I just bought my first Digital SLR camera, a Sony Alpha A100, and I'm pumped! I'm still amazed to look back at some of the photos I took with a point and shoot. I feel very proud. Needless to say, I believe my skills will begin to grow tremendously with my new tool. This is one of the first pictures of Cooper taken with my new camera. Now I just need to get out there and find more subjects. Afterall... C'est bonne vie!
